Matthew 6:19-24 Treasures and Masters

Text: Matthew 6:19–24

What we treasure determines who—or what—rules us.

In this passage from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus exposes the quiet loyalties of the human heart. He contrasts temporary earthly treasure with eternal heavenly treasure, revealing that our investments are never neutral—they always shape our desires, our focus, and our worship. Jesus then presses the issue further by declaring that no one can serve two masters. Every life ultimately bends toward one authority.

This message walks verse-by-verse through Matthew 6:19–24, showing how Jesus connects treasure, vision, and mastery into a single spiritual diagnosis. Our possessions reveal our priorities, our “eye” reveals the direction of our inner life, and our master reveals who truly owns us.

Rather than offering a lesson on money alone, this passage confronts the deeper question:
Who has your heart?

This sermon calls believers to examine where they are storing their treasure, what is shaping their spiritual vision, and whether God alone is being served—or if something else has taken His place.

Key themes explored:

  • The difference between earthly and heavenly treasure

  • Why what you value controls what you love

  • How spiritual vision determines spiritual health

  • The impossibility of divided allegiance

  • Why serving God and wealth is mutually exclusive

This is a call to undivided devotion, clear spiritual sight, and wholehearted allegiance to God alone.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
